Today's AI platforms for educators, such as MagicSchool, Eduaide, Brisk Teaching, QuestionWell, Diffit, and others, can easily handle everything from unit plans, lesson plans, reading passages, comprehension questions, YouTube summaries, assessment rubrics, to even teaching and learning resources and functions we haven't yet imagined. The challenge for teachers today is not how to use these platforms, but rather to remember their numerous features and to recall which function to use when needed.
As a teacher educator, I sometimes wonder: will the development of AI lead to teachers becoming deskilled? For example, how to design a lesson, how to write meaningful multiple-choice questions, or how to provide feedback on students' writing — AI can do all of these tasks faster and sometimes even better than we can!
On the other hand, as times progress, will some teacher skills that we once considered important become irrelevant? For those of us involved in pedagogy, what will we teach in the future? Even more, what should future teacher education focus on?
