 I then tried Ha Sir's second example in his explainer video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPAFfcOiJ14). In Gemini, I typed @, then chose Google Drive. I then asked Gemini: 'Please find my google slidesdecks which are related to language awareness.'

It took Gemini less than 10 seconds to locate, in my Google Drive, the names of the 6 Google slidedecks related to Language Awareness. I then continued to ask Gemini to create a 10-item MC quiz based on the 6 located slidedecks. Again, Gemini gave me the quiz, in interactive format (https://share.gemini.google/ZK1xd6n8KDDq)

Gemini + Google Services > First attempt to add events from Faculty Almanac to my Google Calendar

 Following Ha Sir's first example in his explainer video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPAFfcOiJ14), I uploaded the 26-27 faculty almanac (in Chinese) to Gemini, typed @, and chose 'Google Calendar'. I then asked Gemini: 'Add the 學位教師教育文憑課程 events in September from the attached faculty almanac to my Google Calendar.'

Ten seconds later, when I checked my Google Calendar, the 3 September events on the Faculty Almanac were there already. 

Gemini 可以聯繫其他的Google service (Keep; Gmail; Docs; Tasks; Google Drive), 那麽可以玩的事情便多了。

OBSERVATIONS

1. The method is good for converting images which may mainly include text. 

2. The resulting Google doc will retain much of the formatting of the original text image. 

3. However, if the text image contains graphic organizers, this method may not work. 

4. If the text in the source text image can be copied, then it may faster to just use copy and paste to create the Google doc, unless the text contains a lot of content. 

Created an interactive blank filling worksheet with blank-boxes darken when clicked - with POE app creator

 The last attempt made use of lines for the blank filling: Ss click on the line (a blank), and then click on a word in the Word Bank. The word in Word Bank will appear in the blank. 

But: (1) it may not be easy for Ss to click on a line, and (2) when a line is clicked, there is not a clear sign that the line has been clicked. Hence when Ss have found their intended word in the Word Bank, and go back to the previous line blank, they may miss it. 

This time, after a couple of prompt revisions, I obtained the following interactive page. This time, when a box (instead of a line) is clicked, it darkens. That makes it easy for Ss to recognise which is the blank in question.

Exploring Educator AI Assistant which makes use of Google Sheets

OBSERVATIONS

1. This tool is for teachers to generate a variety of materials: some for teaching and learning (eg, Lesson plan generator); some for admin tasks (eg, 'Angry Parents'). 

2. Unlike similar tools which start as an online platform, this tool runs as a Google Sheet. 

3. There is a variety of tools (about 30?) which a user can add to their 'Quick Tools Palette'. 

4. There is a summary google sheet setting out the outputs that can be generated. This Google Sheet is being updated from time to time. (called 'Tools List Library')

5. To start creating something, go to Google Sheet. Under the 'Educator AI assistant' add-on, open Activity Builder to get a template google sheet. 

6. Open the right-hand side-bar, choose Activity type (eg, "lesson steps to activities') to insert it into the above google sheet. Complete the other parameters (topic; grade level; time; etc.)

7. When finished, click 'Generate' in bottom right corner. The generated materials (eg, lesson activities) will, in most cases, be presented in a Google Doc, which you can copy. 

TAKEAWAY: 

1. At this moment, I'm not sure if it is more useful than the other platforms (eg, MagicSchool; School AI). 

2. But it has a good collection of Prompts which can be used with other tools.

於是我選了其中解釋如何用Diffit 去 create 一個供教reading 的lesson pack的題目(https://workflowy.com/.../how-to-use.../fPs3OkcA9Drg5UoE), 先把这explainer page儲成pdf,然後跟Ha Sir 的建議，用I love pdf把這pdf convert成由jpg合成的pdf (因這樣NotebookLM 才會看到upload 後pdf中的圖片)。

跟著的步驟就和一般用NotebookLM generate video overview一樣，而生成的video, 果然用了我要它用的圖片(否則生成的video會以文字作為畫面為主。)

當然如果要學用Diffit, 学員看我的Workflowy explainer page會比看生成的 Video 更直接；但經過這次練習，將來遇到圖片佔重要角色的解釋，便懂得如何製作了。

Used POE and GEMINI to create canvas app: comparison

 Starting File: A WORD file containing the lecture notes for S3 of my Phonology course. The key words are asterisked. 

In each of POE and Gemini, I uploaded my WORD file, and then asked: 

Create a web-based, interactive, blank-filling exercise, from the attached file. Turn each asterisked word into a blank. Provide a word bank which includes all the asterisked words. Students will be able to see their correct and wrong answers when they have finished the blank-filling exercise.

OBSERVATIONS

1. Both apps work.

2. Both apps have kept the original formatting of my WORD file to a large extent. POE performs better in this regard. 

3. The output URL from Gemini can also be opened in Chrome. 

4. Gemini has come up with an even better layout, with the Word Bank at the top of the page.

Tried using Gamma to create a Website

 Gamma has one AI function which is to generate a website. Actually, it's a webpage, as it is just one single page. 

This time, I tried copying and pasting in part of an outline from one of my lectures. The outline is in bullet points. 

The output is one single webpage consisting of a number of cards (the number of which I could specify when I started) from top to bottom. As such, the webpage still looks like a series of slides strung together.

The webpage can be shared with others immediately.  

Gamma does not present the contents of my outline slavishly. It does quite a good job in assmilating my points and re-presenting them in the 'cards'. 

The webpage has quite appealing visual effect.

Tried using Google Gemini to create an interactive Listening game

 For this attempt, I used the same story text and prompt for creating the 10-sentence listen-and-match game. When in Google Gemini, among the 4 options inside  the prompt box, I chose 'canvas'.

HOW IT COMPARES WITH POE AND CANVA AI

1. It works. 

2. The resulting task can be shared via the share link. 

3. There is no 'publish' vs 'preview' distinction. 

4. The resulting task works in Opera immediately. But in Chrome, users need to log in to their Google account first. 

5. The audio for each sentence takes a bit of time to follow. In this regard, it is not as good as POE and Canva AI. 

Chatbots can create problem essays on demand!

 I never thought of asking a chatbot to create a problem essay. But as I was about to test-drive an AI platform which claimed to be able to give feedback on students' essays, I asked POE assistant to give me a problem essay containing some spelling errors, grammar errors, lexical errors, and illogical sentences.

CANVA.AI VS CREATE PROMPT BOT in POE

The resulting bots are not much different.

Canva.ai will display the different versions on the left, so it's easier for editing an earlier version of the resutling bot, whereas with POE, you use 'Edit', but you can't be seeing the earlier prompt versions at the same time.

But with POE, you can copy the entire chat afterwards. This is not the case with Canva AI.
